Promoting International Collaboration in Whale Shark Conservation, Science and Management

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE | PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA, AUSTRALIA| 9-12 MAY 2005

 


This conference is aimed at promoting international collaboration on the conservation of whale sharks.

The conference will explore current knowledge of whale sharks, the threats they face, and the nature of their interactions with humans across their migratory range. Delegates will present a range of perspectives on current management practices involving whale sharks including, conservation, fishing, eco-tourism and other socio-economic issues.

days 1, 2 and 3: thematic sessions

day 4: workshops
workshop 1: Facilitate regional collaboration in research for the conservation of whale sharks and to develop collaborative projects on whale sharks in the Indo-Pacific region.
workshop 2: Facilitate mechanisms for collaboration on the management and conservation of whale sharks in the region.
